........The Romanian Society for Cell Biology (RSCB), was founded as a national scientific organization in 1982, thanks to the efforts of  academicians Nicolae and Maya Simionescu. RSCB counts today more than 1500 members, especially biologists and physicians, but biochemists, veterinary surgeons, agricultural engineers, hydrologists, forestry engineers, pisciculturists as well. Most of them belong to universities, research institutes and Romanian Academy. RSCB has subsidiaries in 15 cities, most of them prestigious academic centers:  Bucuresti, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara, Craiova, Constanta, Oradea, Satu Mare, etc.
.......The president of RSCB is  Acad. Dr. Maya Simionescu and the vice-president is  Prof. dr. Craciun Constantin, who also conducts the subsidiary in Cluj-Napoca. RSCB organizes each year, around the date of June 10th (the Day of Fundamental Research in Romania) an international or national scientific meeting. The meeting is organized, each year, by another regional subsidiary of the Society.
In 2006 the annual meeting was held in Iasi, as “The Second International Congress of Cellular and Molecular Biology”. ..In 2007, the Bucharest subsidiary organized the workshop, “Romanian Society for Cell Biology at 25 years, Anniversary workshop – From Basic Science to Therapeutic Applications”..In 2008, The 26th annual meeting of RSCB was  organized by the Cluj-Napoca subsidiary, more exactly by Babes-Bolyai University. In 2009 it is organized by the Bistrita subsidiary. Each annual meeting benefits of a broad participation of prestigious scientific personalities from all over the world.
........The journal of the National Society for Cellular and Molecular Biology was first issued in 1996, under the name Current Problems and Techniques in Cellular and Molecular Biology, with English as publication language. In 2002 the name of the publication was changed to Analele Societatii Nationale de Biologie Celulara, it was issued yearly in Romanian with abstracts in English, edited by the Center of Electron Microscopy of Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Professor Constantin Craciun being editor in chief.
........Starting with the XIVth volume in 2009, the name of the journal became Annals of the Romanian Society for Cell Biology and it is edited only in English, by The Western “Vasile Goldis” University, in Arad, and “Babes-Bolyai” University in Cluj –Napoca, Professor Aurel Ardelean and  Professor Constantin Craciun, respectively, being the coordinating editors. Annals of the Romanian Society for Cell Biology (RSCB) appears biannually, in June and in December. Usually, the issues are dedicated to the papers presented at the Annual Scientific Meetings of RSCB, but other original contributions in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology are also accepted.
